A-Mazing Mazes and Perfect Patches

Most of us don’t have fairy godmothers to turn our pumpkins into fancy coaches. But that’s OK. The kids have more fun with real pumpkins anyway. Take in some family fun in one of these 7 Perfect Pumpkin Patches.

Our favourite place to get into the fall spirit is Cannamore Orchard in the East End. A small entry fee gets you access to several play structures, pedal cars, and unlimited rides on the absolutely adorable ‘cow train’. Hop on a cart for a lift out to the far field featuring several mazes and pumpkins galore. After Thanksgiving, the orchard switches to Halloween mode by adding crafts, games, and a Spooky Wagon Ride to the fun. For younger kids, you’ll definitely want to check out their gentle-scares-only Family Days on October 19 and 26. Don’t leave the house without your rubber boots, recommended if you’ll be hiking out to the field to pick your own.

South of Ottawa, we love the Log Cabin Orchard in Osgoode. It’s a beautiful apple orchard and huge pumpkin patch, with a century old cabin as backdrop. Hike out to the patch to pick your own pumpkin, then take a wagon ride back in the autumn sun. Be sure to pick up one of their fantastic pumpkin pies, a jar of jam, or their lip-smacking apple cider in the shop, and above all, don’t forget your camera—there’s a family photo op everywhere you turn (hello, Instagram).
