Take a March Break

So maybe we missed the deadline for registering the kids in gymnastics camp, and as much as we’d like, it’s a smidge too late to book a last minute flight to Orlando. But we aren’t worried about keeping our families entertained over March break because we’re savvy moms. There’s lots to do around Ottawa that won’t break the bank, will keep everyone amused, and keep mom happy too.
Host a Movie Night
Rent a great family film, get into your comfy cosies and snuggle up on the couch, kids ‘n’ all. Or if you’d prefer to take the fun on the road, Rainbow Cinemas at St. Laurent is a great place to catch a movie. Admission hasn’t been this cheap since we were kids! All shows are only $2 on Tuesdays, and a dollar more for matinees on other days.

Ottawa Family Cinema is another kid-friendly option. They’re only open on Friday nights and on Saturdays. Saturday shows are entirely populated by local families, so you won’t feel out of place if you bring your kids and your neighbour’s kids (we like to do favours like that). This not-for-profit theatre donates their proceeds back to the community. Buy a membership to get a discount on your admission.

Get Outside
Check out Vorlage in Wakefield for a day of downhill skiing. This is a great destination for family skiers, and it might be your last chance to hit the slopes. It’s close to Ottawa and they have great rates (including a 2-for-1 deal on Mondays).

No ski equipment? Trailblazers can still find speed by going tobogganing, or get some real exercise and rent a pair of snowshoes. Exploring the trails in the Stony Swamp area of Ottawa, like Lime Kiln Trail. Don’t forget to bring some bird seed, and a camera! Follow it up with some hot chocolate or maple taffy. It’s so quick and easy.
