Pretty Potted Plants for Your Mother’s Day Table

Cut flowers are beautiful, but I love the idea of using potted plants instead in my Mother’s Day table setting. As mentioned, I always host a brunch or lunch for my mother and mother-in-law, and part of my plan includes setting a pretty table for the meal.

I jazz up my basic white dinnerware with colourful napkins and dress the table with tea tins filled with plants that can then be taken home with my guests at the end of the meal. My hope is that they will plant them in their garden, or use them to add a little colour to the inside of their homes instead.

I’m an obsessive tea drinker and I keep my tins over the course of the year and use a few for this meal, especially when the colour of the tin coordinates well with my tablescape. The pretty tea tins I’m using this year can be found at Chapters stores across the country or possibly even in a specialty grocery store. If you prefer the idea of cut flowers, by all means trim the stalks low and fill your tins with those as well.

If you like the idea, but don’t have any tea tins on hand, feel free to use a tin can and cover the outside in pretty patterned paper that matches the colours in your menu and/or linens.
