The Call of the Wild

Aaaaaoooooouu! That’s the call of the wolf and the great outdoors. Ever heard it?

We want our kids to be rugged Canadians, expose them to the wilderness and teach them how to rough it in the great outdoors. But since we live in a world where we can’t even let them run to the end of the street alone, it is unlikely that we will let them out to play with wild animals any time soon.

Behold, Great Wolf Lodge, Canada’s biggest and best indoor waterpark resort and family destination that offers cozy camp-like wilderness fun for every member of the family. Rising up from the Niagara Gorge, the Lodge is a special place for your family like no other and a quick escape from the realities of every day.

Enter the five-story Grand Living Room (aka lobby) and meet talking animals. Check into your room and sleep in a little log cabin. Eat under a tent in the Camp Critter Bar and Grill, visit the Cub Club for arts & crafts for the whole family and don’t miss story time at 8 p.m. every night in the Grand Living Room, hosted by Mother Bear and her forest friends. It’s the best pajama party ever.

The roomsare comfy cozy and perfectly equipped for families. From the microwave to the bathing suit drying line to the special bath suds for kids, they’ve thought of it all.

Now, about that waterpark. Firstly, the 2.5 million litres of water is recycled every 30 minutes in all parts of the park (except in Chipmunk Cove with mini slides just right for the diaper set where they recycle it, even more impressively, every 15 minutes). Yes, it’s really true. At a maximum capacity of 400 swimmers, there are 32 lifeguards on duty. Safety and cleanliness are high priorities at the Lodge, just as they are for moms – all this and fun too. And, you get two days of waterpark play for every one night’s stay!

We don’t deny that Great Wolf Lodge is full of treats – think Las Vegas for kids! You’ll find a candy shop, a 7000 sq foot Northern Lights Arcade, an 18-hole Wacky Wilderness interactive mini-golf course and a lovely outdoor swimming pool with. Beware, overstimulation can sometimes lead to erratic behaviour!

Be sure to take turns with parent duty – having that much fun can be exhausting and we wouldn’t want you to miss out on the spa services available for parents at the Elements Aveda Concept Spa.

Just watching the smiles on the kids’ faces, we can’t think of a better way to create a new family tradition, one family at a time.
