Things To Do in Ottawa This Month

Three cheers for April! If you survived any of your children’s pranks this week on April 1st, it means the rest of the month is free and clear to enjoy everything spring in Ottawa has to offer. We’ve rounded up places to grab delicious bites, ways to shop local, family fun activities and opportunities to support local causes in this month’s April roundup.

Here’s How to Spend April in Ottawa as a Family

Attend a family social justice workshop and make a difference together

When is it? Saturday, April 6, 6:30 – 8:30

We already love the work that World Changing Kids is doing to introduce our children to the world of kindness, giving back and social justice, but their upcoming workshop is just one more reason why we appreciate their contributions. Join them as a family for a Family Social Justice evening as you and the kids can participate in a presentation about homelessness and then uncover ways you can help. You’ll get to work in a hands-on way to create art to raise money for those in need and to make food for the local homeless. This workshop is unlike any other you’ll do as a family. Tickets are available online. This event iis recommended for parents and children aged 6-12.

Sing along with Will’s Jams!

When is it? Saturday, April 6th at 10 am

If your children are familiar with Will Stroet from CBC Kids programming, you’ll be thrilled to know he is heading to Shenkman Arts Centre on April 6 at 10 am for a musical performance that will have you all out of your feet to dance! Will’s Jams is bringing music, dance, video, and more to Ottawa and this interactive, unique show will leave a memorable impression on all of you. Tickets are available on the Shenkman website.

Superhero and Princess Meet and Greet, plus fundraiser

When is it? April 13th, 12 pm – 3 pm

The Starbucks at 1615 Orleans Blvd. in Orleans is hosting a fundraiser and silent auction for Camp Quality Eastern Ontario; the camp provides camping experiences for children with cancer and hematological conditions. The fundraiser includes a hero and princess meet and greet, mini market place, face painting, balloon animals and silent auction. There will be plenty of fun for your family, all for a great cause!

POSTPONED – Grab a bite to eat at the Grilled Cheese Festival

When is it? April 19th and 20th (please note the new date is in October)

Grilled cheese is already one of our kids’ favourite bites to eat, so why not enjoy the Grilled Cheese Festival at City Hall and up your grilled cheese game as a family. The event occurs over two days (April 19th and 20th) where you can indulge in all of your cheese joy. Vegan options will be available too!

Details about the event can be found on their event page.

Grab dinner for a cause from the Parkdale Food Centre

When is it? April 24th, 4:30-7:30

Who doesn’t love a good old fashioned community spaghetti dinner? Parkdale Food Centre is hosting a spaghetti dinner night on April 24, from 4:30 – 7 pm. It’s the perfect time to stop in for a bite to eat as a family, or grab and go to bring home after work. For only $10 a person when purchased online in advance, or $12 at the door, money raised will go back into your community through the Parkdale Food Centre. Did we mention the brownies? Maybe we should have talked about those first!

Cumberland Spring Market

When is it? April 27, 9 am – 3 pm

We love the market season, and the Cumberland Spring Market won’t disappoint. Located in 5 different indoor locations (so you don’t have to worry about the weather), your family can stock up on their favourite bites, gifts and more. There will be over 81 local producers in attendance across the locations. It’s a great way to explore the area together too.

Thanks for the blog, love it…

Just one thing you may want to correct the Cumberland Spring Market. It is not on April 21st but April 27th.

    Cheers,
    Karine
