THURSDAY Test Newsletter – DO NOT REMOVE

Deep blue sky, long shadows, piles of red and gold leaves and thick wool sweaters turkey with stuffing, pumpkin pie and crunchy sidewalks underfoot—these are the sights and sounds of Thanksgiving.
We truly love Thanksgiving because simply put, we are thankful. We’re thankful for the opportunity to give thanks for our abundance without the structure and excess of the other seasonal winter holiday (that which shall not be named until at least after halloween).

We also like how the city slows to a crawl this weekend (many kids’ activities are put on hold) to accommodate family time—making it a great weekend to get away. The Delta Lodge at Kananaskis is a local favourite on long weekends. This year the hotel is hosting the Kananaskis Thanksgiving Heritage Festival for guests. Free activities range from scavenger hunts and guided hikes to storytelling and old fashioned pumpkin carving. We are also delighted to report they still have many rooms available for the weekend. Rooms range from $189 (two adults, two kids) and include a food and beverage credit.

If a quick trip just past city limits is more your speed, take a short drive to the Calgary Corn Maze for their final weekend of the year. Activities range from a Friday Flashlight Night maze (with or without scary Halloween embellishments) to a Pumpkin Harvest (and painting) on Saturday and Sunday during daylight hours. Reservations are not necessary.

In town, Heritage Park and Calaway Park also celebrate their last regular weekends before the snow flies. Enjoy free rides at Heritage Park’s Thank You weekend or opt-in for a traditional Thanksgiving Feast at the Wainwright Hotel. Calaway Park ramps up for the next biggie (Halloween) with a trip down spooky Hallo-street. Unlimited rides are included in admission as well.

Or stay home and…cook—what else? Forage farm to fork foods to go has fresh free range turkeys from Winter’s Turkeys available for pick up this Friday. Give them a call to put in your last minute order.

No matter how you decide to fill your time and your bellies this Thanksgiving weekend, get outside, breathe deep and give thanks for fall, free time and fun with family.
