Keeping the Kids Cool

Are your kids screaming for ice cream? Take them to one of these spots.

After a scorcher of a month, you’ve likely been to your local frozen treat emporium a few times too many. May we suggest a few new haunts to check out the next time you venture out for something cool to beat the heat?

COCOfroyo
If you’re heading north to do the Grind or take in a summer festival, be sure to make a stop in Edgemont Village to check out COCOfroyo, a brand new ‘hot spot’ for frozen yogurt and sorbet, offering locally sourced ingredients. And with flavours such as cotton candy, creme brulee and lots of yummy topping options, we think you’ll agree that this place is worth the stop. It’s the first store for the company, but they’re promising more locations to come. (Get a taste

Menchie’s
If you’re more inclined to stay inland, no problem. Menchie’s, a franchise group from California, is earning huge points with families across the Lower Mainland. Their frozen yogurt locations are popping up everywhere from Surrey and Langley to Burnaby, Vancouver (Cambie and 7th), UBC and the North Shore. The list of flavours is so extensive that you’ll find it tough to ever get bored. (Get a taste)

Earnest Ice Cream
Ice cream fans will be excited to hear that there is a brand new scoop shop opening on Fraser Street and 24th Avenue soon. Earnest Ice Cream is made from locally sourced ingredients, with flavours that change by season, although we’re secretly hoping that Salted Caramel stays year-round. If you can’t wait for the Fraser Street shop opening, look for them in select grocers, Vancouver farmers’ markets (we love the distinctive glass jars) and a food truck that’s coming soon. Our local food scene is rich and flavourful, so it’s no surprise that our frozen treat options are too. Screaming for ice cream never sounded better.
