Spring Sojourn: A Family Getaway to Seattle
Don’t let the (perceived) stress of travelling with kids stop you from discovering new places. Only three hours south of Vancouver, you’ll find Seattle, the perfect weekend getaway. With attractions galore to keep the family entertained, and a laid-back West Coast vibe. We know you’ll love it.
Here’s how we do Seattle.
Where To Stay:
Go green with the LEED™ certified Hyatt at Olive 8 and its convenient downtown Seattle location, only a short walk from the Space Needle and Pike Place Market. Dad can entertain the little ones at the indoor pool while mom sneaks away for an organic olive wrap at the Elaia Spa. The kids are sure to love the ‘For Kids, By Kids’ menus, and you’ll love that you can leave all that baby gear at home—just use their baby supply delivery service Babies Travel Lite.
Where to Eat
To eat like a grown up, but with all the conveniences of a kid-friendly restaurant (high chairs, colouring pages, and kids’ menu), try top Italian eatery Tulio or West Coast favourite Purple Cafe and Wine Bar.
For sweet treats, don’t miss out on Top Pot Hand-Forged Doughnuts. Also a huge hit is the Four Seasons’ Art Restaurant, where mom and dad can sip on top vintages while kids enjoy their impressive ‘Space Needle Sundae’.
What To Do:
At just over 2 months old, the four newborn otter pups at Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo are sure to delight.
For older children, Seattle by Foot offers interesting walking tours for kids that include stopping for tasty treats at Pike Place Market, playing musical instruments at Benaroya Hall and creating a masterpiece at the Seattle Art Museum.
What to Bring
An umbrella and the wellies—you’re still in the Pacific Northwest after all.
So load up the car, load up the kids and head for the border. You be there before you can say, ‘Get out of Dodge!’
