The Best Family Festivals

We heart the summer’€”it’€™s that simple. We know your kids will too, after you introduce them to some of the amazing summer festivals our city has to offer. Here are our favourites:
Illuminares Lantern Festival
This year marks the 25th anniversary of this magical community event and as such, the theme is appropriately entitled, ‘€˜25 Light Years.’€™ The event begins at 6 pm on Saturday, July 20, when over 20,000 people are expected to appreciate the various illuminated works. The traditional procession of glowing handmade lanterns around Trout Lake will begin at 9:45 pm. Good to Know: There is no parking at Trout Lake or in any of the nearby neighbourhoods. Everything on site is cash only, so bring cash for admission, food and lantern sales. There will be an ATM on site in case you need it. (Tell me more)

Whistler Children’€™s Festival
The 30th annual Whistler Children’€™s Festival, on July 13 to 14, is filled with entertainment, inspiration and education just for kids. Whistler’€™s Olympic Plaza will come alive with a full roster of art workshops, activities, roving musicians and zany characters, and a main stage that will feature award-winning entertainers, such as Bobs & Lolo, Charlotte Diamond and Will Stroet. Art workshops include fine art, soapstone carving, jewellery-making, tie-dye, theatre, dance, music and more (fees apply). Good to Know: The workshops at the event are best suited for children ages 3 to 9. Entrance is by donation. (Tell me more)
