Active Fun

Regular physical activity is important for our kids’ overall wellbeing (thanks for the newsflash). But keeping them active during the short, cold, damp days of winter is not always an easy feat. Apparently, children burn about half as many calories in the winter than they do in the summer. So get them off the couch with a few of these savvy options. With registration starting mid-February, we suggest you get moving!

Kids in Motion is a great alternative for instilling an active lifestyle and an appreciation for the arts into your child from a very young age. Based in New Westminster, Kids in Motion is a relatively new high energy creative arts studio offering parent participation and kids only programs from babies to 8 year olds. The focus of the program is music, drama and dance taught through both creative and traditional play, allowing the children to learn new skills without realizing it. Programs like Baby Steps, Theatre Play, Rhythm Kids, Beginner Ballet, Musical Theatre and Creative Dance all have set child development goals. Natasha Young, the founder of Kids in Motion, has one main goal: to send the children home tired and happy, and that sounds good to us! Spring programs run March 31 through June 6, and registration is open now. (For a limited time, Kids in Motion is offering Savvy Mom subscribers a free trial class before registering for the spring program.)
