Why she likes it: "A washable Crayola marker can be a lifesaver, especially if you're with a cranky child and apps aren't an option. My personal favourite: Firefly Red."

Why she likes it: "My purse contains a whole wardrobe of lip finishes for every occasion. I have three (yes, three!) of these lip treatments and I just got the latest shade Petal, which I love."

Why she likes it: "I LOVE it and couldn't cook without it. And while I'm totally embarrassed to admit this, I do carry it in my purse. I usually have some in my bag, plus the big box in my kitchen."

Why she likes it: "I would have to nominate my Starbucks Gold Rewards card and related iPhone app as something indispensable that I carry around all the time. It's auto set to reload via my PayPal account, allows me to track my reward stars for free coffees and I can run out of the office to pick up a latte with just my phone in hand—don't even need to bring my wallet!"

Why she likes it: "Mereadesso is a busy mom's dream. Their all-in-one lotion is a moisturizer, toner, eye cream and illuminator—aka, a miracle."

Why she likes it: "I love using Nivea lotions, and their lip balm doesn't disappoint either. These balms are moisturizing and feel great, and the price can't be beat. I tuck one into the pocket of my winter coat each year."

Why she likes it: "I have this on hand not because I'm a germ freak, but because I have two boys who are not afraid of getting dirty and staying dirty."

Why she likes it: "I spend enough on my hair (highlights, etc.) so using rubber elastics wrapped around produce brought home from the grocery store seemed counterintuitive. I love these ribbon-esque elastics and always have a few in my bag—for myself or my daughter."

Why she likes it: "I always have this on me in case one of the kids gets a cut, or scrapes their knee when we are out and about. The pain relief factor helps them feel better and the antibiotic factor can clean them up when we don't have access to anything better."

Why she likes it: "They don't go in my purse but I use them at least twice a week. Not a single crumb gets left behind. EVER."

Why she likes it: "I usually have a stack of coupons in my purse for various things. I get them from save.ca, websaver.ca and from flyers. This mini accordion file folder helps me keep them organized."

Why she likes it: "Whether it's a headache or stiff muscles, someone is always asking for it, so it's nice to have for those occasions and good for when I need it myself."

Why she likes it: "I love this waterproof eyeliner that I discovered when a sample was sent to our office recently. It's smooth and creamy, and glides on perfectly—without smudging."

Why she likes it: "Nothing is worse than having your phone battery die when you're on the go and you just never know when you might be running low and need a quick charge—especially after the kids get a hold of the phone to play some games."

Why she likes it: "Aveeno is always safe for sensitive skin like mine, but this one is specially formulated for those with eczema-prone skin. I slather it on in the winter months when my hands are looking particularly tragic—it doesn't irritate, sting, cost a fortune or wash off at the first hint of water. I love it."

Why she likes it: "I never leave the house without my little bag of granola bars. I like these ones for their peanut-and-nut-free status, making them safe for all snacking environments. They're for me as much as for the kids—I wouldn't dream of facing the mall without caloric sustenance."

Why she likes it: "You never know when you're going to need to keep your kids entertained, so a blank notebook and a couple of crayons are always good for them to colour a picture, play a game of tic-tac-toe or practice writing their letters. When we go to restaurants, I usually bring mini-colouring books to keep the girls busy."

Why she likes it: "I always keep a band-aid or two on me for shoe emergencies, hangnails, paper cuts, and in the winter, cracks on my hands from harsh, dry weather."

Why she likes it: "Lurking in the depths of my handbag is a spare car key, which I'm embarrassed to say has rescued the ending of more than one outing. Always, always, always have a backup."

Why she likes it: "I like to keep an extra accessory in my purse to change up an outfit. I'm a big fan of long necklaces, and the kids love opening the acorn pendant on this one."

Why she likes it: "I love the sleek design of these lip sticks but I also love that they make my lips feel drenched in moisture."

Why she likes it: "While wipes are awesome for their damp demeanor, they aren't always as easy to carry around in smaller purses. A pack of these goes a long way."

Why she likes it: "I'm not the kind of girl that dresses up for school drop off, but in the battle against looking exhausted, especially when you have long lashes, a little curl as you go out the door goes a long way."

Why she likes it: "I've been using this for eight years and always have some on me. Not only is it a lip balm but you can use it on acne, diaper rash, cuts and cuticles, and I even use it as a moisturizer for my face. And it cost less than $10."

Why she likes it: "I'm always hungry, so these 'healthy' bars help keep me from getting cranky when I am running around with the kids."

Why she likes it: "I like that it gives my lips a natural-looking colour (I especially love the Peony shade) and, of course, it's a must that it helps with dry chapped lips."

Why she likes it: "Because after you turn 40, you need to be aware of delinquent hair—anywhere."
