How to Make a Build-Your-Own Caesar Bar

how to make a serve yourself Caesar cocktail bar

May 14th is National Caesar Day!

Each year it fittingly falls on the Thursday before the May two-four weekend, the unofficial launch of patio season in Canada. And while it’s certainly going to be different this year, we still wanted to celebrate. In honour of this day, we’re bringing you a classic Caesar recipe to make and pour for this season, as well as a fun idea for a build-your-own Caesar bar.

There are as many recipes for a bloody Caesar as there are bartenders who make them, but knowing how to assemble the classic cocktail is necessary before you can begin embellishing with extra flavour.

However, even more fun than making Caesars for everyone is setting up a build-your-own Caesar bar for your friends to make their own drinks. This set-up encourages everyone to create their own cocktails, and allows them to add as much vodka and spice as desired. I like to put out a case of mason jars instead of glasses, but feel free to use whatever you have available. Here’s what you’ll need for your bar:

  • Pitcher filled with Clamato juice
  • Bottle of vodka
  • A bucket of ice
  • Lime wedges
  • Celery salt rimmer
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • Horseradish
  • Tobasco
  • Celery stalks
  • Garnishes like celery stalks, pickled beans, or an easy antipasto skewer made from cubes of Canadian cheddar cheese wrapped in salami and threaded onto short cocktail skewers along with a stuffed olive, cherry tomato and dill pickle.

You can print off the basic recipe and leave it with the ingredients for those friends who may not know how to mix the cocktail. Then encourage them to add more flavour to their drink by tweaking the add-ins. Are you a fan of Caesars? Is there anything else you would add to this build-your-own bar?

Here’s how you make one Caesar.

You’ll Need

  • 1 oz. vodka
  • 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 dashes hot sauce
  • 4 oz. clamato juice
  • Pinch of salt and fresh ground pepper
  • Lime wedges
  • Celery salt
  • Celery stalks

Prep and Cook

  • Rim a glass with a wedge of lime and celery salt. Fill the glass with ice, add the drink ingredients and stir to combine. Garnish with a celery stalk and lime wedge.
