Cooking Class #1 – Fairy Bread

Teach your partygoers to spread their wings with this activity—they might learn a thing or two.

Best for: Ages 3–5

Kids will love playing with sprinkles, butter and bread. Enough said.

You’ll Need:

  • Supervising adults
  • Parchment or wax paper
  • Assorted cookie cutters
  • 2 pieces of white sandwich bread per guest
  • Small bowl of butter per guest
  • Small bowl of sprinkles per guest
  • Spreading knives (palette knives are good for this)

What to Do:

  1. Divide into groups of 2–4 kids each, with an adult supervising each group.
  2. Ask guests to wash their hands. While one adult supervises that, have another place a piece of parchment or wax paper at each child’s seat, along with a basket of assorted cookie cutters in the centre of the group.
  3. Pass each guest two pieces of white sandwich bread, and have a bowl of butter and a bowl of sprinkles within reach. Each guest will also need a spreading knife.
  4. Adults can help the children spread the butter on their bread, cover it with sprinkles and cut it into triangles or fun shapes using the cookie cutters.
  5. Eat the bread as a party treat or help the kids package it up to take home as part of their loot bags.
