Ten Family-Friendly Calgary Patios

patios Calgary

Calgarians, rejoice! Patio season is finally upon us. If you’re like me, you’re always on the hunt for a great new patio to plunk down and enjoy the summer sun on, but if you’re also like me, you’re a parent and that means said patio has to be kid-friendly (unless you’re lucky enough to have a babysitter for the night). Never fear! Calgary’s got some fantastic patios that welcome kids for all or part of the day, and we’ve got a list of ten of our favourites comin’ right up.

Broken City

613 11 Avenue SW
brokencity.ca

Broken City is a Calgary staple if you’re looking for a spot that has live music and comedy combined with great drinks and food made from scratch. It’s never too early to get your kids hooked on Calgary’s live music scene, so why not start them out on Broken City’s rooftop patio? Minors are welcome until 9, except during all-ages shows when they can stay as late as they want (or ’til mom says it’s time to go home).

Elite Brewing & Cidery

1319 Edmonton Trail NE
elitebrewing.com

Minors are welcomes at Elite Brewing & Cidery until 8 pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 6 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. This military and history-themed brewery has a huge assortment of board games for a variety of ages. There are also food and drink specials most days of the week, including our favourite – Taco Thursdays!

If you’re looking for somewhere to grab a coffee and a quick bite to eat, Good Earth in Eau Claire Market has a few tables outside that make the perfect spot to sit and munch before heading over to the wading pool and spray park just a few steps away! For coffee, breakfast and lunch options that are quick and tasty, Good Earth is the perfect spot!

Montana’s Westhills

5622 Signal Hill Centre SW
montanas.ca

Montana’s in Westills has a patio that’s so family friendly, even your pup is allowed to get in on the fun. They have whimsical (and cheap!) milkshakes for kids and tasty cocktails for grown-ups, an awesome kid’s menu and great food for adults, all set in the perfect patio to enjoy the summer weather.

Did you know that National on 8th has Western Canada’s largest rooftop patio? If you’re looking for the perfect sunny place to enjoy some delicious eats and a game of cornhole or ping pong, head downtown to National, where kids are welcome until 8 pm.

Oak Tree Tavern

Level 2, 124 10 Street NW
oaktreetavern.ca

Is there a better way to keep your kiddos entertained on a patio than by surrounding them with adorable pups? The patio at Oak Tree Tavern is both kid and dog-friendly, so if you’re looking for an outing that literally everyone in the family can enjoy, Oak Tree Tavern is the place to go! There’s always something fun happening at this cozy Kensington pub, whether it’s live music, comedy acts, all you can eat hot dogs, half-price nachos, or games of pinball.

Palomino Smokehouse

109 7 Avenue SW
thepalomino.ca

The Palomino is famous for its smoked meats (cooked in western Canada’s largest smoker) and country-western vibe. The courtyard patio out back welcomes anyone under 18 until 8 from Sunday to Wednesday and until 4 from Thursday to Saturday.

Delicious pizza, pasta, appetizers and a dreamy patio are what you’ll find on the menu at PZA Parlour, located just off of McLeod Trail and Southland Drive SW. They’ve even got a Kids Menu with items like pizza pops, kids pizza, pasta and dessert. If you’re in the mood for Italian fare, this patio is one you won’t want to miss!

Toad ‘N’ Turtle

5155 130 Avenue SE
toadnturtle.ca

Toad ‘N Turtle’s Shepard location, located in Southeast Calgary, has two patios, and while the rooftop one is strictly for grown-ups, the main floor patio is both kid and dog-friendly. Red Seal chefs have created menus filled with tons of fantastic, unique pub fare (butter chicken yorkies, anyone?) and all of their meat is smoked in-house. Kids are welcome to get in on all the deliciousness until 8 pm.

4th Spot

2620 4th Street NW
4thspot.com

Our family loves 4th Spot (and their sister restaurant near Mount Royal University – Spot On). 4th Spot is the perfect place for families, with Kids Night on Tuesdays, popsicles for kids at the end of their meals, a buzzing atmosphere (which makes it the perfect spot for families), and, best of all, incredible food that will keep you coming back time and time again. Their cozy little patio is the perfect spot to dig into a mouth-watering burger, ooey gooey pizza, or one of the many other yummy dishes on the menu. They have daily specials every day of the week and one of the best Happy Hour menus around daily from 2-5.

Does your family have a favourite patio that didn’t make the list? Are you planning to head out to visit one of our top ten? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
