Gone Fishin ‘

The beautiful colours of fall. The crisp fresh air. The need to capture every minute of the season while we can before the deep freeze, snow suits, winter boots and runny noses…
Pumpkin patch? Been there.
Apple picking? Done that.
Trout fishing? With kids?

A few trout farms close to the GTA are still open on the weekends and provide a fun outdoor experience for the family. The mom in us loves the healthy fresh fish you can bring home for dinner – a great way to get your kids to eat fish. And the savvy in us loves that this time of year is not as busy for reelin’ them in.

Be warned – this is not the quiet, serene, sit-and-wait kind of fishing you might have experienced in the wilderness. But the pond is FULLY stocked with hungry fish so the kids are sure to get a bite.

The ‘catch’ – most farms charge an entrance fee per person and extra for the fish you catch and bring home. They do allow you to ‘catch and release’ if you wish – so don’t keep anything you don’t want to eat (or pay for). Advance booking is a must.

Our reco – in the true spirit of fishing, arrive as early as possible. (Let’s face it, you’re awake anyway.)

SavvyMoms bring:
Life jackets for the non swimmers (also available for rent)
Rods (they rent these too)
Snack/lunch for a picnic
A blanket to sit on
