Strawberry Fields Forever

Nothing announces the arrival of summer like fresh local strawberries. The good news is that our mild spring and sunshine of late foretells a bumper crop of strawberries this year. With the U-Picks opening everywhere this weekend, we thought we’€™d share what have been our favourite strawberry fields, forever.
Krause Berry Farms in Langley has 45 beautiful acres of strawberries and, as of this weekend, is open every day of the week. After the kids have picked their weight in juicy, red, sun-ripened berries, they can relax in the play area and enjoy a berry milkshake with Krause’s famous roasted corn pizza. Visit the goats, bunnies and pigs, wander through the U-Pick flower garden (pick out a bunch to take home) or enjoy a country carriage ride. New and newsworthy is their Estate Winery that just opened last month, where you can sample several types of fruit wine (apple, raspberry, blueberry and strawberry). Who knew?

Good to Know:

  • Call ahead to hear about berry availability and field conditions.
  • Bring your own pail (with a handle) and check in at the U-Pick station to have it weighed.
  • It’s best to pick in the morning’€”there are lots of berries and it’s cooler out, but pack a hat and wear sunscreen to be sun smart.

Strawberry season always ends too soon, but keep this list handy because the raspberries and blueberries are right behind. Here are 6 Places to Go Strawberry Picking in Vancouver with the kids.
