Does the Queen Fart?

I don’t have much in common with my fart-loving four-year old, except reading. We all know how important it is to read to your kids, but I only have so much patience for reading books about trucks and superheroes.

Which is why I was thrilled to receive a copy of the children’s book, ‘Does The Queen Fart?’ by Heather Gordon, with illustrations by Marko Rop. This book thrilled my son and had us both giggling like school girls, mostly thanks to the presence of the f-word (fart) on almost every page. (I counted at least 15 f-bombs!)

Thankfully, the protagonist in this book is a young boy named Valentine, who doesn’t get why mommy thinks farting is such a big deal! After all, everyone farts, right? This hilarious tale features a lead up to a visit from the Queen to Valentine’s house for a tea party. If you find it painful to read to your kids, this book also includes a little adult humour woven in, another positive, because your f-word loving kids will want you to read this over and over again.

So what happens when the Queen shows up? Is what Valentine’s mother says true, ‘polite people don’t fart’? Well, you’ll have to read this book to find out if the Queen farts too! (Bring out those whoopee cushions, for some extra fun, while reading this book about passing wind! As the young boy Valentine says, ‘But farts are funny, Mummy, and they make me feel better!’)

Both, I think, are so very true.
