A New Fest

We should celebrate our kids every day’so they remind us.
However, when it comes to long weekends, finding something different to do with the kids can feel more like a challenge than a celebration. That’s why we’re excited about the inaugural Banff Children’s Festival happening over the May long weekend.
The Banff Children’s Festival is on Saturday, May 18 and is filled with lots of free fun for kids of all ages. Start the day off with a family swim at the Sally Borden Fitness and Recreation Centre, followed by a BBQ at noon in front of Rolston Recital Hall. Get rid of that post-lunch energy in the Gym Play Area, where bouncy castles will be filled with bouncers, or get creative at the Walter Phillips Gallery drop-in workshop where local artists connect forensic science to making artwork. After all that activity, take a break and enjoy storytime at the Bentley Chamber Music Studio.
Three shows are on the schedule as well. Catch Flyin’ Bob’s Be the Circus which includes juggling, acrobatics and a unicycle. Go retro and enjoy a performance from classic children’s entertainers Sharon and Bram, and bask in the excitement of Eric Carle’s beloved children’s stories using black light puppetry performed by Nova Scotia’s acclaimed Mermaid Theatre.
We didn’t think Banff could get any better, but now it has. We promise it’s worth the drive’but if you choose to stay closer to home on the long weekend, check out these 11 Reasons to Love Calgary.
