Lake Louise’s Ice Magic Festival

If you live in Alberta, you have to embrace winter. If you don’t, it’s a long, hard six months. Fortunately Lake Louise’s Ice Magic Festival is just the cure for those January blues.

Head there for frosty fun January 16 to 25 to watch international ice carvers create masterpieces from 300-pound blocks of ice during the sculpture competition. Besides checking out the ice magicians, families can carve their own blocks in the Little Chippers Ice Zone at Samson Mall. Or head to The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise to explore the ice castle and skate with the Ice Queen. There will be open fire pits, marshmallows to roast and even an ice bar for parents.

Inside the famous Chateau, you’ll find crafts and games at Cozy Corner Kids Indoor Activity Centre—great for warming up when the little ones get chilly. Then head back outside and attempt the Ice Magic Winter Wonderland Scavenger Hunt.

Good to know: The festival is now a ticketed event. Be sure to register in advance so you and your family can frolic in this winter wonderland.

Don’t let winter get the best of you. Keep your spirits up by attending one of these 6 Fun Winter Activities in Calgary.
