Egg-cellent Entrees

The Family Restauranteur: attributes include an inexplicable desire to take one’s children to public eateries likely due to cabin fever, lack of culinary ability, desire to make mess somewhere other than one’s own kitchen or a stubborn grip on their pre-kid life. Often found eating egg-type dishes and toast with children in tow because they know that brunch just has that certain je ne sais quoi for families.
The warm room, fragrant coffee and comfort food on a cold weekend morning are almost irresistible. Not to mention, service is usually quick, food is palatable to even the most discriminating toddler and morning is often the best time of day to attempt a family outing.

So whether you’re a resto-veteran or resto-newbie, here are our fave family brunch hot spots.

The Belmont Diner
Located in Marda Loop, The Belmont Diner is a tiny throwback to days of the diner. Highlights include pancake art for kids and ½ orders (you’ll know what we mean when you see the size of the plates). Go early on weekends, bring cash (no credit or debit accepted) and travel in a party of four or less to squeeze into the tiny booths.

The Phanntastic Pannenkoek Haus
In North Glenmore Park, the Pannenkoek Haus offers a twist on brunch. These Dutch pancakes look like a pizza/crepe combo and are loaded with ingredients ranging from cheese & potato to banana, coconut and chocolate (our fave).
