The Best Outdoor Pools in Ottawa

SavvyMom October 4, 2016

One, two, three, cannonball! We just love the delicious feeling of leaping into a cool pool on a hot summer day, and luckily Ottawa has some great outside water spots to make a splash.

The best (and most economical!) choice in town is one of the city’s own nine outdoor pools. In the east end, we love Bearbrook, a great family pool with a fun slide—plus a covered picnic area and a playground right next door. In the west end, Corkstown is a great spot for wee ones, as they feature a separate little wading pool for toddlers. If your kids are a bit older, try Glen Cairn, which has an awesome diving board and a public library right next door so you can plan for some post-swim quiet time. (Glen Cairn also has a separate, shallower pool for preschoolers, too.) Want to make it a party? Find some friends or neighbours to make up a group of 10 or more, and the already low entrance fee gets even lower.

When it comes to little kids, Ottawa really does it right with over 50 fantastic wading pools in town. We love heading over to Greenboro Park, which is one of the few places in town that has both a pool and a splash pad for maximum water fun. There’s also a poolside gazebo for some lovely shade. McKellar Park is another top location—its pool is split into toddler and big-kid zones, and there’s a great play structure and washrooms right on site. Don’t forget to check the schedule of Wading Pool Special Events, which bring crafts, musical guests, games and prizes to one of the pools across the city each week.
