Our Guide to a Truly Spooktacular Kids’ Halloween Bash
Entertaining kids on Halloween night is one of the great joys of parenting. Here is our guide to creating a spooktacular kids’ Halloween party.

Creepy Treats:
Get creative and serve up a scary treats kids will love. Make or buy a sheet cake and decorate it with icing then sprinkle the top with Oreo cookie crumbs. Then lace gummy worms in and out of the crumbs for a silly and slightly creepy cake kids will love. You can also do individual cupcakes using the same idea.
Another spooky cake idea is to create spider webs using black shoe string licorice. You can then place candy spiders on top. Older kids might also enjoy skeleton cupcakes using black frosting to create a scary mouth and eyes on white icing. Prepare some nut free cookies such as classic sugar cookies and frost with royal icing. Then create scary pictures using food colouring markers. You can also choose to dye icing in black and orange and just decorate with simple gummy worms, candy corn or other nut free candy choices.
Mummy Wrap:
Have fun playing a mummy wrap game. Kids can be split into groups and one child will be the mummy and the others have to wrap him in toilet paper or white crepe paper. To be safe instruct kids not to wrap heads or faces but stick to the body only as they cover their friend like a mummy. The first to be wrapped has to ring a bell or sit on a special chair to be judged as complete.
Petrifying Piñata:
Fill a spooky black cat or ghostly piñata with favourite Halloween nut free treats and have kids take turns hitting it with a witch’s broom.
Pin the Tail on the Monster:
Find a scary character picture such as a werewolf and have kids play pin the tail on the monster.
Scary Touch and Feel Game:
Use common food items from your pantry and fridge and play a game where kids can touch items blind folded and guess what it is. Peel grapes for eye balls, use cooked spaghetti for “guts” and green jelly as ghostly slime. This is not great for younger kids, but tweens will love it.
‘Bobbing’ For Donuts:
Tie donuts to a string and the first kid to bite into theirs wins.
Activities:
Have some small pumpkins kids can decorate with black sharpies or let kids experiment with spooky face paint to create their own scary character. Cookie or cupcake decorating is also a fun Halloween activity kids will enjoy.

Halloween Décor:
Look for ideas that will be fun and a little spooky but not so gory it will cause nightmares. Friendlier characters such as witches or cute little ghosts might work better than say vampires and skeletons. Have some friendlier jack o lanterns but place them away from areas where long costumes can come into contact will flames. Consider using battery operated candles to be safe. Take larger sized cans and cover them with white crepe paper and funny eyes for friendly little mummies you can place on the table. Collect fallen branches from the garden and lean them in the corner of the room and decorate with some black bats or crows. Stuff white garbage bags or old sheets in a ball with newspaper and tie it off to create a ghost head. Draw or glue on funny wide, black eyes and smiling black mouth. You can also take your summer tiki lamps and stake them in the lawn covered with white sheets as ghostly greeters.
Nothing is more fun than putting together some harmless yet spooky ideas to create a wonderful Halloween night kids will love.
