The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

It’s the most wonderful time of the year at SavvyMom Media…and we’re not talking about that old Andy William’s holiday classic with the kids jingle belling and the much mistletoeing. No, it’s launch time for the SavvyMom Mom Entrepreneur of the Year award, the time of the year we celebrate the creativity, drive and success of mom entrepreneurs across Canada. In 2007, we were thrilled to crown the team from Mabel’s Labels our national winners and in 2008, the honour of Canada’s top mom entrepreneur went to Martha Scully from Canadiansitter.ca (whose fantastic site recently saved me when my own babysitter had to go away unexpectedly for four weeks).
The contest launched yesterday and runs until the middle of September. Once again we have a huge prize package—$15,500 worth of cash and business services designed to help the winner take her business to the next level, thanks to our great cast of sponsors. But we have a few new things I am excited about this year too—we have added a ‘Share This’ feature so supporters can easily share (Digg, Facebook, Tweet, or whatever) and encourage support of their favourite nominees through their social media communities, and we have a new ‘Inspiration Wall’ for each nominee, where fans can leave comments and encouragement for their favourite mom entrepreneurs. I am looking forward to browsing through these all summer long as we know we are going to see some very inspiration stories in the Nominee Gallery. And just for fun, and in response to popular demand, we added a little widget called a Vote-o-Meter so people can get a sense for how well they are doing vote-wise.

It’s been a busy month with site development and copywriting and sponsor-corralling but our launch today makes it all worthwhile.
