International Neighbourhood Parade
Best for: All Ages

Young athletes will be all smiles as they walk the streets for the party’s opening ceremony.

You’ll Need:

  • Music player (for the different countries’ anthems)
  • British flags, as well as other countries’ flags (Canada, USA, Greece, etc.).

How to Play:

  1. Gather the kids on the front lawn.
  2. Divide them up into groups representing the countries you have flags for, giving each child one small flag.
  3. Begin the ceremonies by playing Greece’s anthem. Greece always opens the ceremony.
  4. When the song ends, have the kids who represent Greece hold up their flags and begin the parade through the neighbourhood.
  5. As each country steps off the lawn to march, announce the country for all to hear and play their anthem or a portion of it.
  6. The other countries follow, with Britain going last, as it is the games’ host country this year.
  7. When each country has returned to the starting grounds, have the kids who represent Britain yell, ‘Let the games begin’ to declare the opening of the games.

Good to Know: If you can’t find cheap, small country flags, an option is to just print off each flag from the computer onto printer paper and have the kids carry those.
