Life happens in the kitchen. And especially if you suffer from tiny kitchen syndrome, you don’t need anyone to tell you how hard everyday life can be. You really need to utilize every inch of space and, at the end of the day, you still probably have all kinds of clutter in sight. Since life is so messy, you need to get creative. So, here are our top tips for kitchen organizing to rid yourself of that kitchen clutter and start everyday fresh:

5 Creative Kitchen Organizing Tips:

1. Use your behind-the-door space

If you have a cupboard or a pantry, it’s time to make the best use of your space, even if it means hanging items on the back of that door. A small towel rack secured to the back of the door can be used to hold pot lids or hang utensils, measuring cups, and bowls. Attach an old magazine rack to hold your Ziploc, plastic wrap, and tin foil boxes. Or repurpose a shoe caddy to hold the kids’ snacks, cleaning materials, or kitchen supplies.

2. Magnetize your tools

Think out of the ‘block.’ Instead of using your knife block (which, let’s be honest takes up WAY too much space on the countertop) use a magnetic metal strip on your backsplash to keep your knives organized and ready to grab. If you’re tired of that old Lazy Susan spice rack, switch-it-up for a bunch of magnetic jars from the dollar store. The side of the fridge (you never use) will instantly transform to become home to your ground chives, paprika, and sea salt.

3. Repurpose it!

Your house is chock-full of things you hardly ever use – so get creative! Now is the time to repurpose all that old (or new!) junk for the kitchen. Cut off the handle of a new rake, paint it, and attach it to the wall upside down. Slide your stemware into the prongs and you’ve got antique looking wine glass storage. Turn your skirt hangers into chip clips or use an empty (washed) wet wipe container to store your plastic grocery bags. You can even find an old wooden cutting board to fit over the sink for extra counter space when you need it in a flash.

4. Put more under the sink

Sometimes you can fit a shelf into another shelf! Try it under the sink with stackable wire shelving units. Or grab some stackable rolling shelves from a home appliance store for much easier access. That way you can build upward to utilize all that unused space. Right under the top of your cabinet, put in a tension rod to hang all your cleaning products and spray bottles.

5. Use your ceiling and wall space

If your tiny kitchen has a lack of built-in cabinet storage space, try using your ceiling and wall instead. Hang pots and pans from the ceiling using a ceiling rack (or DIY-it with a large towel bar and hooks). Utilize the space underneath bulkheads to build high shelves. Add a pegboard backsplash for easy access to utensils. And, if you have the space for a kitchen cart, definitely invest in one. They’re cute, provide extra counter and storage space and can be hidden away when not in use.
