An Award-Winning Oscar Night Menu

Whether you’re attending an Oscar-viewing party and donning your pearls, or catching the action at home and donning your pajamas, there is no denying that food plays an important part in the evening. Unlike the Super Bowl, when greasy indulgent food is essential, this type of viewing party practically begs for a simplified and more sophisticated menu.

Here are six ideas for an easy yet elegant menu you can put together for a group of friends, or your own family:

Chipotle and Rosemary Roasted Nuts: Easily one of the best tasting seasoned nut recipes around. There is no point in adapting it (although you can use smoked paprika in place of the chipotle powder if that’s all you can find). It’s just that good. Share with your friends and be ready to pass out copies of the recipe—they’ll be asking for it.

Sweet Potato Hummus: Set out with fresh veggies, flatbread, pita pieces or crackers for a quick and easy yet nutritious snack everyone will love.

Leek and Potato Soup: It’s been ridiculously cold so I definitely recommend passing around something warm and comforting to those you are watching the Oscars with. The soup can be made a few days in advance, then reheated and served in mugs or plastic shot glasses, which are readily available at most party supply stores.

Tuxedo Strawberries: These berries provide a much-needed burst of summer flavour and come decked out in their finest duds thanks to the dipped chocolate ‘tuxedo’ each piece of fruit is wearing.

‘Bag of Popcorn’ Cake: For a sweet finish to the night serve this classic ‘Bag of Popcorn’ cake, a surprisingly simple themed dessert that will delight your friends and family.

Concession Stand: If you aren’t up for baking, a self-serve concession stand will win you the ‘best dessert’ award of the night.
