Haircuts can be scary for some kids’imagine a perfect stranger standing over you with sharp scissors pointed at your head.
They can also be a hassle for moms who are trying to check everything off the back-to-school list. But Carol Brouwer and her mobile salon, Chic Effectz, can help both mother and child. As a mobile stylist, Carol comes to your home. All she needs is a sink, a chair and an electrical outlet. The kids can chill out in their own environment, while you take five minutes to yourself (good for emptying the dishwasher, folding laundry, changing baby’s diaper’lucky you).
Need some styling of your own? Carol is available both during the day and in the evening, working with your schedule to make it easier for you. Get a couple of girlfriends together and have a styling session, or invite some mom friends and their kids over to have a hair-cutting party. She’s available Tuesday to Saturday, and needs about a week’s notice for daytime appointments. Kids’ cuts are $20, and women’s are $60. There’s no travel cost for those living in the city, and a nominal fee for areas outside Calgary.
As for a stylin’ back-to-school tip? Carol recommends tea tree shampoo for the kids as a safe alternative to help prevent head lice. That’s one school guest we’re more than happy to leave behind.
