School-age kids can learn how to prepare tasty and nutritious foods with classes and workshops by Poppy Innovations. More than a cooking school, this community-minded business offers a variety of hands-on workshops that go far beyond teaching your kid to make their first grilled cheese. The mandate is to take participants from (garden) ‘gate to plate,’ teaching Calgarians how to grow, harvest and preserve produce.

Cook with Your Kids is a one-time class offered each month at the Calgary Farmer’s Market. After preparing your healthy dish together, you’ll sit down to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Tuck into honey garlic bison meatballs with pasta on April 18, or springtime risotto on May 2. Or take advantage of the parent and child six-week culinary class beginning next month in southeast and northwest Calgary.

Poppy knows the best way to enjoy locally produced food is to grow and pick it yourself. That’s why they’ve got a community garden and plots for lease to serve residents in South Calgary, De Winton, Okotoks, and High River.
