The Savvy Guide to December

Snowflake

Oh the weather outside is frightful. But your family is soooo delightful. (We mean the extendo family.)
Don’t fret the frightful—this is one of the best months of the year! Here are some reminders to make the most out of December—whether your family is delightful or not.

Stay warm, safe and merry!

GO
See the Christmas Lights Across Canada, 300,000 Christmas lights illuminating over 70 landmarks along Confederation Boulevard, including Parliament Hill. The ceremony is December 7 at 6:00 p.m. on Parliament Hill and the lights are lit every day from 4:00 p.m. to 1 a.m. until January 8.
Why? It’s festive and it’s free!

DO
Get your RESP contribution in by the end of the month.
Why? Because the deadline is the end of December—not February (that’s RRSPs)! You do care about your kid’s education, right?

More information is available from the Ontario Securities Commission, and don’t forget about the SavvyMom program with Futura Rewards.

GET
Something for yourself—a facial, a manicure or a new scarf to stay warm. Just treat yourself.
Why? Because you deserve it, oh keeper of the list(s).

PLAY
Holiday music that everyone will enjoy. Try Ella Wishes You a Swinging Christmas Or A Charlie Brown Christmas by the Vince Guaraldi Trio
Why? ‘Tis the season (and it’s better than Barney!)

HELP
Check out Share Central at The Carlingwood Mall Friday December 8, 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It’s an annual event that lets you make one-stop donations of cash and goods to several Ottawa charities.
Why? There’s entertainment for adults and kids and you can watch a live broadcast from the mall. Friday, December 8, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
