Check It Out

“Read it again, Mom.”

We know you’d like to but you’re facing a sinkful of dishes, the Everest of all laundry piles and, on top of that, you’ve already read “Chicka Chicka Boom Boom” 17 times in the last 24 hours. Kids may love constant repetition but you don’t.

We’ve found a way to satisfy you both. Your kids can hear great literature and you can listen along with them while you fold that laundry. The Ottawa Public Library’s new audio book download service offers over 200 titles specifically for kids, including classics like “Anne of Green Gables”, “The Velveteen Rabbit” and “Winnie the Pooh”. You can download up to 10 titles for 14 days each and, even better, there are hundreds of great fiction and non-fiction titles for SavvyMoms too.

What we love about this service:

  • It’s free. If you have an Ottawa Public Library card you’re good to go. If not, go get one! You don’t know what you’re missing.
  • It’s flexible. Funny that the library is not open at midnight when you finally have a few minutes to yourself. With this service you can log on and download 24/7. On the road? A fresh download can keep the “are-we-there-yets” at bay.
  • It’s foolproof. It’s impossible to get library fines. Files automatically check themselves back in after 14 days meaning, yes (we have to say it one more time), no fines.
