Every family thinks they have the best mashed potatoes, even if they’re out of a box or package! But truthfully, perfect mashed potatoes are easy to achieve and well worth the effort. Our recipe won’t steer you wrong.
Perfect Mashed Potatoes Recipe
- 3 lbs. russet potatoes, peeled and cut into equal-sized pieces
- ¼ cup butter
- ½ cup milk or cream
- Salt and pepper
Prep and Cook
- 1Place the potatoes and 1 teaspoon of salt in a large saucepan.
Cover with cold water, bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and cook until the potatoes can be pierced with a fork, about 15-20 minutes.
- 2Meanwhile, combine the butter and milk/cream in a small pot and heat until the butter is melted. Drain the potatoes and place them in a bowl.
- 3Add the hot milk mixture and mash well, pushing through to the bottom of the bowl.
Add additional milk or cream if necessary to achieve the consistency you are looking for.
Stir with a wooden spoon and season with salt and pepper, to taste.
