Spooky Spider Brownies

You’ll Need

  • 1 ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, cut into pieces
  • 6 squares unsweetened chocolate
  • 1 ½ cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp butter
  • 1 cup icing sugar
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • ½ tsp vanilla
  • 2 squares (ounces) semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 tsp unsalted butter

Prep and Cook

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Lightly grease 13” x 9” baking pan.
  • Combine flour, cocoa, salt, and baking soda in a mixing bowl and set aside. Melt butter and chocolate in sauce pan at low heat and stir until smooth. Let cool, then stir in vanilla, sugar and eggs until well blended.
  • Gently stir in flour mixture to sauce pan and mix until blended. Pour into lightly greased pan.
  • Bake for 20 – 25 minutes. Insert clean toothpick in the centre of the pan to check for doneness (if toothpick comes out covered with batter, bake for another 5 minutes).
  • Let pan cool before icing.
  • Cream butter and sugar well, add milk and vanilla until icing is smooth. Spread evenly on top of the brownies.
  • For web decoration, melt chocolate and butter in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over low heat until smooth.
  • Pour icing into a small re-sealable plastic bag, cut a small hole in the corner of the bag, and pipe 5 concentric circles of chocolate over the white icing. Starting at the centre circle, drag a toothpick 5 or 6 times through the circles to outside edge of circles to create spider web patterns.
  • Once the icing has set, cut into squares.
