VanSmart Apps

There’€™s a reason smartphones are called smartphones. They help us do things quicker, faster, and, well, smarter than ever before.
But let’€™s remember that your phone is only as smart as the human who made the app you downloaded onto it’€”the apps that make your smartphone smart.

Before you get more confused, check out our favourite Vancity apps (made by humans, delivered by phones).

WeatherEye
Good for: Vancouverites who want to know whether to pack an umbrella, sunscreen or both.

Star Walk
Good for: impressing your kids (and friends) when you tell them that twinkling star is, in fact, Jupiter and that you know your Cassiopeia from your Ursa Major.

Vancouver Traffic
Good for: checking the city’€™s 20 traffic cameras before you start your engine’€”you’€™ll always know which bridge to take downtown.

Tap Map
Good for: knowing where the city’€™s closest water fountains are, so the kids and Fido are well hydrated with Vancouver’€™s finest free beverage while out and about.

PayByPhone
Good for: saving you from dumping your purse contents onto the sidewalk or buying a sugary donut to get change for the parking meter. This app texts you when your time is almost up so you can re-meter remotely.

Flixster
Good for: reading reviews, watching trailers, buying tickets on your phone and never having to wait in line at the movies again (except to buy popcorn, of course).

Urbandig
Good for: getting curated recommendations on where to find Vancouver’€™s best food trucks, vanilla soy lattes, craft beers, grilled cheese sandwiches, oysters, and more. The perfect source for those all-too-rare date nights.

Canucks
Good for: everyone’€”because our boys in blue are going to win the Stanley Cup this year.

There’€™s no doubt that apps make our job of being a mom easier, so we can concentrate on the little humans who need our attention. Because there’€™s no app for that. Tested by Nancy C., Vancouver
