Sensational Solution
On a busy day—and what day isn’t?—the answer to the five o’clock dilemma too often comes home in a paper bag.
Vancouver moms now have a savvy option—fast food that’s emphatically not ‘fast food.’ In fact, it’s so yummy you can serve it up to a new boss or an old flame. Even your toughest critics—your kids—will be lining up for seconds.
Get Informed
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?I see an informed parent looking at me.
How did Brown Bear hear about the brand spanking new urban centre for families called The Informed Parent before the SavvyMoms anyway?
A Very Savvy Year
One year ago today the first edition of SavvyMom Today came out and launched us on an incredible journey. We hope you’ll indulge us today in a look back at the last year – the highs, the lows and the in-betweens:
Quick Fix
It’s not just what to cook. It’s the planning, the dreaming up something new to offer your family night after night after night.
And then it’s gone in two minutes flat.
Go With the Flo
Evasive manoeuvers, dives, fakes – no, we’re not talking about the defensive highlights of your little soccer star’s summer season. Instead we’re referring to those slippery bathtime moves that same little angel makes when you get out the shampoo and announce it’s time to wash and rinse. We have the solution in three letters: F-L-O.
Lunch Critics
Our friends from Canadian Family are back this month with a great deal for you (hang on, we’ll get there in a second…) and they brought results from their team of real critics – kids who will share with you what lunch boxes are hot on the market now.
Here are a few of our faves from their tried and tested list:
Your New Breast Friend
Hollywood these days. Everyone running around looking glam and having babies all at the same time.
How is it possible to have a baby and feel sexy like them (you know who we mean) if you can’t even find a decent bra?
We Vote For Joe
Back to school, back to shmool. What about Mom?
We don’t need recess to justify our own back to school retail therapy with clothes from Joe Fresh Style.
Flashback
The 80’s apparently are enjoying a bit of a comeback. Who knew? Black leggings, baggy shirts, even leg warmers have been spotted around town.
Don’t laugh – hold those thoughts of your youth. We’ve found the perfect blend of 80’s style with the millennium mom-preneur sensibility for babes.
So Many Tomatoes, So Little Time
Mmmmmmm. Note big juicy, plump and perfectly ripened local fresh tomatoes. Must buy, cook and freeze for winter months.
Looks like a lot of tomatoes though. Not so organized this week. Maybe just a few for salad, hate to waste…
Do have time for frozen dessert section though.
Basic Training
“Thanks Mom. I love you.”
The words we yearn for before baby learns to speak – only to be met with ‘Dada’, ‘No’ or ‘I want’ when the time comes.
Not a ‘Please’ to be heard.
Out Darned Spot
Life as a Tide commercial…we all live it. Ketchup, cranberry juice, red wine, pureed anything. Way more than Lady Macbeth could ever handle.
I Scream for Ice Cream
Chocolate chip, vanilla, strawberry frozen yogourt, Bovinity Divinity, Makin’ Whoopee Pie, the list goes on (and on).
A good old fashioned trip to the ice cream store with the kids will never go out of style – no matter how outrageous the flavours get.
Not the Fashion
There’s a growing and alarming trend out there (and no, we’re not talking about the skinny stovepipe jean).
According to the Allergy Asthma Information Association, 2 – 4 % of Canadian children are affected by food allergies, with the same number being at risk for anaphylaxis due to allergies, and it’s an increasing public health issue.
Easy Livin’
Summertime and the living is…easy? Think long sunny days, sipping lemonade on the hammock in your straw hat.
Now wake up.
Try sweaty and bored children looking for some fun on the 34th day of summer vacation.
All the Raj
We never said we’re the only ones with good ideas for moms. That’s why at the beginning of every month, we’ll be sending you an article from the recently revamped Canadian Family magazine. It’s savvy too. We think you’ll like them…

The Fregetable
The watermelon. Big, round and juicy. Nothing says fun summer eating like it. But even better than fun, the watermelon is also good for you. It contains higher levels of the antioxidant lycopene than any other fresh fruit or vegetable (even more than the tomato).
A Helping Hand
Thumbtimes you just need a little thumbthing to lend an extra hand. Luckily we found the help you need to make your life a little easier, at least when you”re trying to read a little bit of that new book you just picked up.

Dear Savvy Mom,
Heard you were thinking about some good summer reads for a kind of savvy list and I thought I would submit my thoughts.
Remember LBK (life before kids) when we just read whatever was in front of us? Now we have to be more selective and make sure our reading time is used wisely, right?
